short and sweet

My day today...started out not so well. I was way behind with school work, shed many tears for well over two hours (I willingly admit), and just had a rough start. But see these people up here? Well, they are kind of amazing and totally changed my rough day into a joyful, happy, memorable one. Volleyball, adorable little pink cupcakes, lemonade, and fellowship can totally do a one eighty to a girl's day.

a "sweet" sixteen, indeed.

One of my best friends, Beth, recently had her sixteenth birthday party. She and her family asked me (eep!) if I would be interested in being the designated photographer for the party. Hmmm, let me think here...

Heck yes!

And I therefore photographed the entire party. Even the people who refused to let me take their picture, got their picture (secretly) taken.

Everybody had a wonderful time and the day was made of {lots of} sugar, water, laughing, games, and chit-chatting.

I forgot to mention, I downloaded the thirty day free trial of Photoshop CS5. Can we say in love? This here picture, I made have a bit of a vintage look.

They purchased a $200 cake complete with zebra striped fondant  just for the festivity.

Kidding. About it being $200. Acutally, Beth's fourteen year old sister made it.

I know. Wow, right?!  I believe to my soul I could never make such a masterpiece. Swoon.

And of course, our lovely birthday girl!

For those who have already turned sixteen, what do you remember about your party? Or just turning sixteen?

For those of you who haven't yet turned sixteen, what is your dream sweet sixteenth party?

Thoughts of Spring Blog Party!

Photobucket

Since Lynnette announced that there was going to be another blog party, I have been so excited! I just love answering questions and blog hopping to see what others put as their answers. This is also a great way to meet new bloggers.

Here are my answers...

How would people describe your personality? (If they could only use ONE word.) Are they right? Sarcastic. They are 100% correct.

What celebrity/celebrities would create a “Star-Struck” feeling if you saw them in real life? Lady Gaga all the way! I love her music (with my parents previewing the lyrics before I put them on my itouch) and I think I would probably faint is I had the chance to meet her.

Who is your favorite blogger? Why? I would have to say Bleah Briann over at With Love & Kisses. She truly is just herself and isn't at all the *ahem* type of blogger that is full of herself. At some blogs, you see, you feel like they are not posting what is truly on their mind (whether it is funny, silly, deep, important, etc). But Bleah does and I encourage you to go to check out her blog and follow her.
What is your comfort food/drink? *embarrassed grin* water is honestly my comfort drink and my mom's chocolate chip pie is definitely a comfort food (nobody makes pie better than she does! Just sayin').

Be brave – tell us something very random and weird about yourself. I am addicted to putting lotion on my hands (Ha! I should go on 'My Strange Addictions'). Don't laugh...ok go ahead. I constantly feel like my hands are dry and I always keep a hearty amount of lotion in my purse (Sweet pea is currently the lotion I have). Is that weird? Neh.

Do you have a strong desire to do something you’ve never done? What is it? Since I was about ten years old I have always wanted to travel to California. Some people say "Oh you don't want to go there, it is trashy and there's smog in the air." But there are also others who say it is gorgeous and I know a few bloggers who live there and from the photos they share, it looks like paradise!

Movies: Action, Drama, Romantic Comedy, Documentary, Comedy? What are your favorite genres? I love drama and thriller movies. My favorite drama/romance movie is Confessions of a Shopaholic (Rebbecca, I can totally relate to you) and my favorite thriller movie would have to be Jeepers Creepers (TV version!). Good stuff, people!

Books: Fiction, Non-Fiction, Romance, Biographies, True Stories, Self-Help, Devotional/Study? What are your favorite types of reading material? If I'm being honest, I'm not much of a book reader myself. However, I love biographies and true stories. Shirley Temple has a very interested biography and true story wise, The Hiding Place is wonderful.

Music: Funk, Rock, Country, Jazz, Classical, Film Score, Blues, Classic Rock, Crooner, Alternative, Heavy Metal, Techno? What are your favorite types? Pop/pop country is right up my alley!

If you inherited a million dollars, what is the first thing you would do with your money? Do I seriously have to answer the first thing I'd do? *Sigh* fine. Pay off our family's house.

Name one weakness of yours (confession is good for the soul). Loving bratty people that I sincerely do not like.

If you could live anywhere at all (and take all your loved ones with you), where would you go? Los Angeles, California.

Strange Talent? Can you juggle basketballs, put your legs behind your head or perform some other strange feat? I am a cat whisperer. Crazy cat girl? Nope. Cat whisperer? Yes.

What’s something you consider yourself to be good at? (Don’t worry, it’s not bragging, it’s acknowledging a God given gift). Gymnastics. I am fairly flexible and learned to do an ankle stretch in one week and could do back hand springs, splits, and front tucks at the age of seven. That did sound bratty! Pssht.

What is one of your favorite things to catch a whiff of? Coffee. Glorious, coffee.

When you leave a social gathering, do you wish: You would have talked more or You would have talked less? Talked more. For some odd reason (unless I'm with my friends/family) I tend to be very quiet.

If money wasn’t a factor, what stores would you shop in? Aeropostale, Ross, and Dillard's.

What is your greatest fear or strange phobia? Puking. It is disgusting and I cannot stand it. I actually haven't gotten sick on my stomach since I was nine, but if anyone throws up...it sends me into a great frenzy.

What is your greatest accomplishment? Oh my...let me think here...probably saving up and purchasing my itouch. Let me tell you, I am terrible at saving up for things, but for this...I saved up for it in two months and literally spent no money the whole time I was saving for it.

What are your favorite animals? Hamsters, cats, and bunnies. I am a huge fan of furry little rodents and cats. In fact, I own a hamster named Benji.

^(Benji was selected to be Pet of the Day on a website. Just look at that plaque!)
Are you a hopeless romantic? Ummm....reword please?

What movie or book character can you most relate to? Rebbecca Bloomwood from Confessions of a Shopaholic. Definitely.

Oh the Places You'll go...

We have had a *how should I put this* very busy week this week! It started this past Wednesday when we saw the Trans-Siberian Orchestra in concert...

On Friday I had a Christmas party and there was lots of delicious food....

and nachos and cheese (recipe at the end of the post)........

                                                                     and lemonade (recipe coming too!)...........

and made lip gloss (recipe coming)............

and did pedicures (compliments of moi!)............

After my Christmas party, my friend Kiley and I went to a lady's house to help with a kid's outreach. After that we came home, watched The Others (way less scary than the trailer made it seem), and went to bed at 10:30! I am shocked myself that we went to bed that early. I mean, we usually go to bed around 12:30 or 1:00. Then the next morning.......we babysat four kids (ages 10, 8, 5, and 2) for seven hours. And then after that, we went to Carols by Candlelight at my friends, Beth and Breanna's church (which was a-m-a-z-i-n-g!). Yes, I was pooped by the end of the day. Goodness.

Anyway.......

Here are the recipes for the nachos, lemonade, and the lip gloss!

Home-made Nacho Cheese

1. 1 large block of Velveeta cheese (other brands may be substituted)

2. 8 oz. of sausage

3. 1 can of rotel (other brands may be substituted)

4. Brown sausage and drain it

5. Combine all ingredients in pot over medium heat until cheese is melted

Lemony Lemonade

(How to make the lemonade.....super easy!)

1. 1 cup of lemon juice

2. 1  1/2 cups of sugar

3. 6 cups of water

Stir all three ingredients together in large pitcher

Then.....

Put 1/2 a lime, 1/2 a lemon, and 1/2 an orange in the lemonade and refrigerate

Lip Gloss

1. Vaseline

2. Any flavor of Kool-Aid drink powder (other brands may be substituted)

3. 1 lip gloss jar (I got mine at Wal-Mart....98 cents for two!)

Get one big scoop of Vaseline and put it in a bowl; and pour in as much flavored drink powder as desired (the more powder you put, the more color and flavor you get!). Stir the Vaseline and flavored drink powder together and put it in the microwave for 15 seconds. Take it out, put about a pinch's worth of water in the bowl, put it back in the microwave for 10 seconds, take it out, and stir it. After it is good and stirred, put it in your lip gloss jar and voila!

(For me, grape and cherry powder worked the best!)
