Happy Father's Day!

Hello everyone! This is a pic from this morning. My dad has had a great Father's Day for far. We couldn't exactly rap up his gifts because it is all gardening stuff that he has been wanting. I don't think I've told you guys; but we are doing organic gardening (a.k.a no pesticide). Anyway, he got a wheelbarrow (from all of us), a hose with nozzle (from Drake and Mom), and fresh cherries and lettuce seeds and Alaskan pea seeds (from me!).

After he got his gifts, we went to church and then came home, changed clothes, and went to eat lunch at East Cost Wings. After lunch, we went by Starbucks, my dad's classroom (he will be teaching at a christian academy in August), and then went by Wal-Mart to look at some bird baths. It was a fun family outing!

Now, let me tell you about the organic gardening. You already know that by doing this type of gardening we won't use pesticide. We have already planted tomatoes and peppers in chicken poop and mulch. But now, we are doing something called a compost bed which is where we make our own soil. The compost bed has newspaper, straw, animal poop, and grass clippings from our lawn mower. I know it sounds utterly disgusting, but throughout the year it turns into soil as it heats up. Pretty cool huh? That's not all we're doing though, we are wanting to plant more vegetables, fruits, fruit trees, etc.

Not only are we doing organic gardening, but we are also planning to get little chicks so that we can have our own eggs. There will be no chicks in the eggs that the chickens produce because there won't be a hen and the eggs won't be fertilized...it will just be....an egg like you'd buy at the grocery store. We are going to build a chicken coop as a family project hopefully sometime soon too. So yes, we are going green! For more info on organic gardening, you can ask my dad on his blog by clicking here.
