what it would be like to be a mermaid? ............
Talk fantasy with me for a moment, would you?
My mom and I watched something on 20/20 Tuesday night about people with so called, superpowers. The first thing that caught my eye though, were the mermaids. It was amazing to see them swimming around in the ocean so gracefully.
Seriously though, these ladies really can hold their breath for at least 5 minutes. They had their mermaid fins professionally made, but what gets me, is how they look so real.
This is Hannah Fraser, one of the mermaids (isn't she beautiful?). She taught herself how to swim like a mermaid by tying her legs together and swimming like a dolphin in her pool. I probably wouldn't would never have the guts to try that.
And.......
take a look at this pic.......
Hannah swims with sea creatures like this dolphin, under the sea, WITH her eyes opened. She said on the interview on 20/20 that if she could have gills like a fish, she would live underwater and come up every now and then for a bit of sunshine.
Meet Linden Wolbert. She is another mermaid and has swam down 91 feet in the ocean.
Check this vid of Hannah Fraser and Linden Wolbert out......it's pretty cool.....
Isn't that just............awesome?! It almost makes me want to be a mermaid myself (except for the fact that I can't hold my breath for 5 minutes underwater).
I know, I probably sound like a little kid who just saw The Little Mermaid for the first time. But I just think this is so interesting about the 'real' mermaids!
I guess you could say my new heroes are Linden Wolbert and Hannah Fraser.....maybe....=)
So when I go to the beach this Saturday, I'll be sure to look out for mermaids. ;)
Hope you all have a great week/summer!
(I'll be done with school tomorrow....yipee!)
I've never heard of such a thing.....very interesting!!
ReplyDeleteThat is very cool. she is beautiful and the mermaid life has always been intriguing. Thanks for sharing that cool video
ReplyDeletethat is amazing that they can hold their breath for five minutes! the longest i can hold mine for is probably 20-30 seconds! thats so cool great post!
ReplyDeleteThat was very interesting - a little weird huh? I think I can stay under water for about 20 seconds before panicking. ha! That was fun to watch.
ReplyDeleteHave you seen the movie The Cove? It was great and also quite interesting - sort of sad though.

I LOVE this post! I was incredibly obsessed with Ariel and "The Little Mermaid" as a child - I literally wanted to be her. Strange considering I can't swim! Have you ever seen the movie "Splash"? It's one of my favorite mermaid films!! :)
ReplyDeleteWhen i was little, i ALWAYS wanted to be a mermaid. I was intrigued by the whole idea of living in the ocean and swimming with the sea creatures.
ReplyDeleteI would swim in my grandparents pool and pretend i was a mermaid and would play for hours with these make-believe stories in my head. I had the fun-est time!
Now, the idea of living in the ocean simply scares me outta my mind....but still a neat "fantasy".
That is pretty cool!
OMG!!!! That is the coolest ever!! She really looked like a mermaid you see in the fantastical movies and all!!! I love that!! I guess I can try being a mermaid at Emerald Pointe!!! And it is really cool how they are using their ability to help the oceans and other people!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteBeth!!
