10/31/11

called.

It started when I was ten years old. My mom, brother, and I were at the mall 'shoe shopping' and after a while, I wanted to take a little break. Leaving the little shoe store, I plopped myself on a bench. My and my mom's friend had recently been called out to California for an interview in hopes to get on "The Biggest Loser" and I sat on that bench thinking about what it was like out there. As I was pondering, Carrie Underwood's song "Jesus Take the Wheel" was echoing throughout the mall. For some reason, just the echoing stir of the song made me feel sad. No, it was not the song itself, just the blend of the song echoing plus thinking about California. Suddenly, the thought came to me.

I want to go to California.

Keep in mind, I was only ten years old. I had never really seen photos of California (true, I had seen the Hollywood sign) and honestly knew virtually nothing about it. I didn't just want to go; I felt the need to go.

It was as if I was homesick for a place I had never been to.

Since then, I have always desired very strongly not just to go to California, but to actually live there. This is no secret either. The majority of my friends and family know about it. In fact, the discussion of it came up briefly at the home-school group I go to on Tuesdays. During the seminar, our tutor looking a bit skeptical about the idea, brought up the cons of living there:

vast amounts of homo sexuality
terrorism (potentially occurring)
expensive living
beyond sinful groups of people
etc.

I did not beg to differ with his points. He was right. This led me to thinking though,

That is exactly why I need to go.

There are so many unbelievers that California needs more believers.

As of right now, I know that beyond a shadow of a doubt, God has called me to go there. I know, I know...I am 'just a teenage girl who doesn't know everything about the real world' but...who am I to question that? If God has called me to go, then I will go. My friend, Bailey, feels that God has called her to live in Africa, open up her own orphanage, and adopt. Now that is beautiful, right there.

God can give people their calling early on. If you take the time to pray about what He wants you to do, you may see a door opened up that you had no idea was there.

Has God called you to do anything specific?

  1. That's truly amazing. It's wonderful how God can put things in our heart that we know are from Him. I would say lately God has been showing me what college to go to, and it's amazing that He's finally leading me to where He wants me to go after so many years of uncertainty.

  3. Wow!!! That is so neat! Good for you for hearing beyond the tutor's inputs and hearing God's calling.

I live here in California {for fourteen and a half years}, and yes, it's a beautiful state!!! And I love it, despite the sin, but know that this whole world is sinful!

    Great post! Thanks for sharing!

    In Christ,
    Grace

  4. God is Amazing how he can set people and events right there to show you and speak to you. I believe he has called me to be a missionary in Africa as Bailey. Keep shining his light.

  5. That is amazing...... I meet a guy that is a 'missionary' in CA,and he was saying how many young people are there that are just SO lost.

Have you ever heard of "The Way of the Master" I'm pretty sure the guy in that is in CA?!

I used to think I would want to be a missionary to India, not sure yet,but I DO want to go there on a missions trip at least once.

  7. I've lived in California my entire 45 years. I couldn't imagine living anywhere else. I pray for California often. So thankful for the calling He's put on your heart.

  8. That is really cool, Anna Gray! When you go to CA, take lots of photos! :D

Myself, I haven't felt called to do anything big, just the small things, but I know that God has a plan for me too.

  11. I can totally relate! I feel like God has called me to teach, and being a homeschooler, that's so way out there. Public school isn't what it cracked up to be, but yet I still feel the need to go and teach there. I guess to make an impact on student's lives? It's crazy, but when you know it's something you're meant to do, what else CAN you do?

  12. That's amazing! I haven't had an exact moment like that, but there have been times when God has clearly shown me which direction to take by closing doors and opening other ones.
